Nikki Carr

Featured Comedian @ "Distinguished Guest of the Fest" Featured Comedian

Nikki Carr is the eldest daughter of renown jazz drummer Bruno Carr. Growing up Nikki’s father did not reside with her and her mom, instead he would pick her up and take her for weekend visits to his home in Laurelton, NY. When Nikki turned 6 years old, her visits came to an abrupt stop. Throughout her teen years, Nikki would ask her mother constantly to help her find her dad. Her mothers response, “Get Famous and he’ll find you”. Nikki never did reconnect or find her father.

By the age of 19, Nikki had two daughters who at the ages of 4 & 5 years old would be kidnapped by their father and taken to Africa. Nikki was sure she’d never see her girls again. One late night, Nikki was watching The Tavis Smiley Show on BET and Steve Harvey was the guest. Steve was explaining the difference between a Comic and a Comedian. Nikki learned that by that explanation, that she was indeed a comedian. A naturally silly person all of her life, she’d decided to use that gift and her mother’s advice to get famous so that her daughters could find her. At the age of 34, Nikki would began her comedy career at the New York Comedy Club.

“Put her in any sitcom right now and she’ll steal the show as soon as she walks on the set.”

-Keenen Ivory Wayans

In 2000, Carr made her television debut on BET’s “Comic View” and hasn’t let up. Six months after she’d debuted on BET’s Comic View, her daughters, then 17 & 18 years of age found their mother, Comedian Nikki Carr. Nikki would continue to do comedy after their reunion, simply because of her love of comedy.

One of her biggest charismatic breakout TV comedy moments came after she competed and achieve the finalist level as the runner up on NBC’s 2014 season of Last Comic Standing, Nikki’s career hasn’t stalled since. She can be seen in the movies “Golddigger Killer”, Dynasty Pictures’ “Change the Game” and Charlie Murphy’s “Crash Comedy”. She has since been on Martin Lawrence’s “1st Amendment Stand Up”, Showtime’s “Stand Up for Family” and “One Mic Stand” with Kevin Hart to name a few.

Nikki comes to the stage with quick and effective wit, hilariously relatable anecdotes, and the courage to laugh in the face of all the things she could cry about. Her trials and tribulations as a woman, mother, grandmother and lesbian provide rich comic material. These days you can find Nikki performing on various cruise ships or making special appearances in comedy clubs and venues around the world.
