Bo P Barnes hails from the small town of Silver Creek, Mississippi.
Bo has always made his family and friends laugh, but after finishing
High School he did what every child is supposed to do to make his parents proud,
and he completed college with an impressive degree in electronics under his belt.
At that time he decided to relocate to Oakland, Ca. hoping to find greater employment
opportunities. He began working for the USDA, putting his electrical degree to use.
It was 1993, when Bo P, for the first time ever went to a comedy club and
a friend dared him to take the stage. He thought, “I can do that”, and that
evening he received his first standing ovation. He knew from that point
on he could make his dream of becoming a comedian a reality. Comedy
became his life as he worked on his set and performed on every stage in
the area. One year later, he made his television debut on the legendary
“SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO”, and has never looked back.
He produced and directed his own music video show, on the
Soulbeat Television Network called “Bo P’s Video Hits”, which
became the number one show for the network. During this time the
producers of the hit television show “HBO’S Def Comedy Jam” approached him to perform
on the show, where he was given the opportunity t o appear on several occasions.
Bo P, like his idol Richard Pryor, has the uncanny ability to make his comedy
seem effortless, as if he is having a personal dialogue with his audience.
He can make the audience break into laughter not only during the show,
but hours after they leave as they recall the things he has said.
In 1995, after gaining positive notoriety and successful reviews, Bo P
made the move to Los Angeles, Ca. where he was heralded, “A Rising Comedy Star To Watch”.
His provocative and uncompromising style o f social commentary gained him the
opportunity to appear on numerous televised shows including “Comedy Escape” and
“BET’s Comic View”, from which he was offered the starring role of “Reggie”, on the network’s
first original sitcom “The Blackberry Inn’. This lead to other sitcom roles on shows such as
“Martin” on the FOX Television Network and The WB’s “Sister Sister”. He made his movie
debut in the movie “The Breaks” featuredon Showtime and Cinemax. Additionally, he
appeared in a movie for Urban World Films called “For The Luv Of Money”, released in
theatres during the spring of 2002. Throughout his extensive career, Bo P has continued to be one of the nations most sought after comedians. He headlines regularly in comedy clubs, colleges and theatres across the country, as well as overseas for our American troops. H e has
hosted major musical events such as “The Budweiser Best of the West Talent Competition”,”
The Magic Johnson, Miller Lite and Vibe Tour” and
“The Hip Hop Fest” sponsored by the Jacksonville Jaguar’s Football Association.
In 2005, while living in Biloxi, MS Bo P graced the beautiful Casino stages as a
regular opening act for various artists such as, Brian McKnight and
D.L Hughley and others. During this time Bo P became the victim of Hurricane Katrina,
from which he gained critical acclaim for his documentary Katrina Ground Zero. After
moving t o Atlanta, the documentary became a finalist in the 2006 African American
Cinema Film Festival and received a Notable Mention, “Extraordinary” from
Harvard Medical School and the NAACP.
Most recently, Bo P has performed with such acts as, Frankie Beverly and Maze,
The Temptations, and the new R and B singer Chrisette Michelle. He headlined
the Gibson’s “Jazz and Jokes Tour”. Additionally, Bo has been welcomed by
The Pepsi Corp., Dunkin Donuts, Pizza Hut, Yum Yum, and A and W to host their
annual company events.
Bo would do a production on “That Ugly Sho” a reality based television program.
He produced, directed and edited the documentary.
